Eventually when the programmes decide to open, Task Manager is shown several times, probably due to me trying to open programmes. Your description fits with that idea because it's receiving keyboard commands but not acting on them until it's finished doing whatever it is. Nothing really weird has been happening yet so I guess i'll just wait and see.
