i discovered it was the cleverly disguised SCVHOST.exe that was causing it, so i ran a search for anything with the name scvhost and deleted all of it including what got I preformed the suggested tasks with HijackThis and MBAM. Later versions of Windows are more secure then XP and the Windows Firewall is much improved.
However, when you say "the newer version" addressing ZA's use of 100% of CPU, are you referring to the newer version of ZA? There are a number of them available and some are more safe than others.
